Week17 |
Mother |
Baby |
| You
may feel stretch in your muscles and ligaments of
the lower abdomen that are supporting your growing
uterus. Your bodily secretions may increase due
to the increased blood volume. So if you have increased
sweating or increased vaginal discharge this is
normal and nothing to worry about. |
By
the end of week 17, Your baby now measures 12.0
cm and weighs about 90 g. During this time , babies
start to form 'brown fat' which stores under their
skin and help them keep warm after birth. Your baby
starts inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid to practice
its lungs to breathe on their own at birth . |
Week18 |
|
|
| Your
bump is showing more and uterus is about the size
of a rock melon. You will be advised by your doctor
to have an ultrasound sometime between 18 -20 weeks
to check any physical abnormalities. During this
ultrasound they mainly examine spina bifida, cleft
lip, kidney disorders and some heart problems. You
can also have video developed of your child's movement
at his stage. |
Your
baby now measures 13.0-15cm and weighs149-156g.
your baby has developed own set of fingerprints
this week. The inner ears are developed sufficient
to sense sounds such as movement of blood through
umbilical cord and mother's heart beat. The placenta
is as big as baby and not only provides nutrients
and oxygen to the baby. it also takes away wastes
from the fetus's blood to your blood stream. |
Week19 |
|
|
| You
are just a week away from the halfway mark of your
pregnancy. You'll probably have lost your waistline. You
must not be happy about your skin turning dry itchy and flaky. Don't worry,it's due to hormonal changes, because
after pregnancy your skin will return to whatever
is normal for you |
Your
baby now measures 14-16cm and weighs about 195 g.
During this time a greasy white substance called
vernix caseoa is produced. It is a covering that
protects the delicate fetal skin from the the amniotic
fluid. It is largely gone by birth, but you may
see it if the baby is born premature. |
Week20 |
|
|
| At
this stage, your breast starts making the fuid that
feeds your baby for the first few days after birth.
It is a yellow fluid called colostrum. you should
be feeling your baby's movements by now. From now
onwards your uterus will grow about 1 cm every week. |
Your
baby is now about 14-16 cm in length and weighs
about 250-280g. Your baby has started to practice breathing motions, even though his lungs are not yet mature enough to breathe enough air to allow him to survive outside your body. |
